complete and each year I see improvement in my art work.
This is my second year to participate in #inktober and I found a way to keep this challenge simple and able to complete each day. I use a small 3” square sketchbook and prepare the pages ahead of the month with the name of the prompt for each day. I also limit my supplies to an ink pen for drawing and two gray brushpens for shading. This are line drawings which really help improve my drawing skills each year as I strive to capture a variety of ideas.
Another challenge I’ve done in past years is #boatober2024 from Doug Jackson. He releases a photo of a boat or boats each day of the month that I then complete with an ink drawing and watercolor. The variety of boats is amazing and so much fun to try and capture all of the details. Each year I have seen so much growth in my watercolor techniques and especially with capturing nuances in water and sky. This year I am using a landscape oriented sketchbook with watercolor paper. I’m using my Lamy Safari fountain pen with brown waterproof ink. My watercolors are Daniel Smith which have such lovely transparency and rich color.
I’m adding a third challenge this year #theydrawtober using lists from #theydrawandcook #theydrawandtravel #theydrawandgarden which includes mixing and matching the lists of prompts. I stated this challenge in colored pencil but was not pleased with the final look of the page so I’m switching to gouache and acrylic ink pens to create more vibrant art. This challenge is quite a different style as it’s simple illustrations.
